PESHAWAR: Deadline for exposing the forensic report of flour and sugar scandal has expired, but no such report could be made public or action taken, which shows the government has been protecting the mafias in its ranks.

The delay in releasing the report is condemnable. The government has deceived the people once again by not honouring the promise made by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the so-called champion of accountability, said Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, provincial president of Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the JI leader strongly condemned the government for the two-week delay in the report. “The prime minister has been trying to distort the report to save his loved ones,” he claimed. The prime minister should honour the commitment he has made with the masses. The unadulterated forensic report about the scam should be made public and stern punishment should be awarded to those involved in the scandal, he stressed.

He also blasted the government for the skyrocketing hike in the prices of the daily use items like pulses, vegetables, fruits, meat and chicken at the advent of the holy month of Ramazan. He said that the tsunami of upward trend in prices of daily commodities has broken the back of the people, who have already been affected badly by the Covid-19 crisis and long lockdown.

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said that the government has lost its writ over the markets. The black marketers and profiteers have been making good use of the inabilities of the rulers, who have been busy in protecting the corrupt elements in their ranks instead of providing relief to the masses.

Everybody knew that the architects of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, its influential leaders and ministers were involved in the sugar and flour crisis in the country.
