Clerics asked to follow SOPs on Taraweeh

PESHAWAR: The district administration here on Saturday urged the Peshawar-based religious scholars to help the government create awareness among the people about coronavirus and follow the standard operating procedure for offering Taraveeh at mosques.

Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Mohammad Ali Asghar held a meeting with religious leaders including Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madni, leader of Mutahidda Amn Committee, Maulana Abdul Haseeb Haqqani, district ameer of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Allama Abdul Aziz Chisti, president Anjumam Aaima Wa Khuttaba Ehle Sunnah Peshawar, Maulana Siddiq Ali, Mohtamim Jamia Ghousia Yaktoot, Obaidur Rahman, Jamia Masjid Khyber Ihle Hadith Peshawar Saddar.

The deputy commissioner informed them about corona pandemic and the human losses it had caused so far in Pakistan and other parts of the world. Mohammad Ali Asghar told the religious leaders that since there was no treatment or vaccine for the coronavirus, therefore, precautionary measures, including social distancing, wearing of face masks and washing hands were to be applied to avoid the disease. The deputy commissioner said the Ulema can play an important role in creating awareness among the people about the pandemic and urged them to follow the SOPs while offering collective prayers and Taraweeh at mosques. He advised them to ensure that the faithful kept a distance while offering prayers in mosques. The religious leaders agreed to cooperate with the government as it was their collective responsibility and promised to keep a proper distance in lines in mosques during prayers. Peshawar is in the grip of coronavirus and has recorded 511 positive cases of Covid-19.
