COVID-19 claims another life in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: COVID-19, the disease caused by 2019 novel coronavirus has claimed another life here in the district in last 24 hours taking total number of coronavirus related deaths so far reported from Rawalpindi to seven apart from one death at Military Hospital in town.

It is important that two confirmed patients of COVID-19 belonging to the federal capital including one doctor have already lost their lives due to the infection that has so far claimed a total of 10 lives in the twin cities.

The patient died of COVID-19 on Sunday, a male was a resident of Rawal Town and has returned back to Pakistan from United Arab Emirates few days back. The patient was undergoing treatment at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in the town. His first contacts including family members and relatives, however, have already been tested negative for COVID-19 according to district health department.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 continued to spread in the region as another 14 patients have been tested positive for the infection in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients belonging to the region to 383.

In last 24 hours, as many as six more patients have been tested positive in Rawalpindi taking total number of confirmed patients of the disease from the district to 212 while from Islamabad Capital Territory, another eight have been tested positive taking tally to 171 in the federal capital.

To date, a total of 212 patients have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the district of which 41 have recovered and discharged from Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, said Executive District Officer (Health) Rawalpindi Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Sunday.

It is important that another 18 confirmed patients of the disease who were isolated at their homes have also recovered from the infection and on Sunday, there were a total of 146 active cases of coronavirus illness in the district.

The EDO said that as many as 107 more persons have been put under quarantine at Fatima Jinnah Women University along with some 70 persons in a local hotel in Saddar area (Shalimar Hotel) in last 24 hours. These are the passengers of a flight reached Islamabad International Airport yesterday from UAE.

He said the persons have been quarantined and their samples have already been sent to the laboratory for confirmation. Another 13 persons who are first contacts of persons belonging to ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’ have been under quarantine at University of Engineering and Technology Taxila.

Of 171 confirmed patients so far reported in the federal capital, as many as 20 have recovered while two have lost their lives. On Sunday, a total of 149 active cases of COVID-19 were undergoing treatment at the hospitals and in isolation at their homes.
