KARACHI: Fahim Gul, a World Squash Federation assessor, has said that it is unfortunate that no referee from Pakistan has achieved WSF certification in a long time. “Most of the local squash referees are also coaches so technically they are biased. This is why their standard is not of international level,” said Fahim while talking to ‘The News’.
He said this is the main reason no Pakistani referee had achieved the WSF’s certification for a long time. It is pertinent to mention here that ASF’s Referees Committee conducted its third focal points meeting in August last in Malaysia to chalk out a roadmap for the development of referees in Asia.
The committee agreed to revisit the nomination criteria for Regional Assessor and to make an exclusive appointment of assessors for regional championships for better referee development and quality control. Also, the committee proposed for assessors to conduct clinic and assessments instead of referee conference as it will be a better route for referee development.
