RMU kicks off online teaching

Rawalpindi : Rawalpindi Medical University that was closed for the last one month due to COVID-19 pandemic has now developed Learning Management System (LMS) which is a software application and a complete solution for online teaching.

Due to closure of RMU, all routine teaching activities were stopped and there was risk that lot of precious time of about two thousand students would be lost. Along with MBBS students, the RMU has Allied Health Sciences, Nursing and Postgraduate students therefore it quickly uploaded learning resource materials on its website to benefit the students.

According to the RMU administration, at the same time the RMU started working on online teaching. The RMU LMS can deliver diverse educational technology content. It is teacher friendly, making things easy for teachers who will quickly and clearly share learning material and also students friendly.

Vice Chancellor at RMU Professor Dr. Mohammad Umar informed ‘The News’ on Friday that the LMS is actually moving from traditional classroom to digital, live or virtual classroom which will help quality distance learning.

The LMS was inaugurated by VC Prof Muhammad Umar on this Wednesday. Faculty members and support staff have already been given training. Students have been given their own login and password. LMS has various features like file sharing, assignments submission, feedback from teachers, live quizzes or examination, automatically checking MCQs, attendance, online library, grade book, feedback from students and student’s digital file along with notification board for giving notification to whole class or even individual student.

We will also give access to parents so that they may see progress of their children. All resource material including lectures regarding current modules have been uploaded. Department of Medical Education will supervise this distance e-learning. Therefore precious time of students would be saved and they would be engaged and supervised in teaching and learning, said Professor Umar.
