Special cleanliness drive for Eid begins in Peshawar
200 vehicles, 3,000 workers engaged

PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has formally kicked off the cleanliness campaign for Eidul Azha that would continue till all the remains of sacrificial animals are properly disposed off, officials said on Thursday.
They said WSSP Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Naeem Khan visited different parts of the city including Faqirabad, Zaryab Colony Hayatabad, University Road, Rahatabad, Palosai, Tehkal Bala, Danishabad, Nauthia, Gulbahar, Phandu Road, Sethi Town and Charsadda Road.
It is pertinent to mention here that over 200 vehicles and 3,000 sanitary workers are participating in the special cleanliness campaign during to ensure timely disposal of remaining of sacrificial animals.
For safe disposal of offal, 100 feet long and 15 feet wide digging has been done in the existing dumping site at Hazarkhwani.
During his visit to different areas and talking to sanitary workers and residents of the city, the chief executive officer asked the officials to maintain cleanliness at any cast and collect and dispose of sacrificial animals offal forthwith.
“The animal waste is hazardous to health and needs to be properly removed. Cleanliness is a part of our religion and everyone must play his due role in cleaning-up the city as early as possible,” Naeem Khan added.
Appealing to the residents of Peshawar for participating in the cleaning campaign, Engr Naeem said that without active participation of the residents, it is difficult to clean up the city.
The animal waste must be dumped at specified locations and if these remained unattended, people must approach the WSSP, through the dedicated complaint centres. “The contact details have already been widely publicised for ease of the residents,” Naeem Khan concluded.
Earlier, while briefing the Chief Executive Officer, General Manager Operations Nasir Ghafoor Khan said that special fumigation along with dry lime application campaign has already been started in the entire city along with fumigation at the dumping site. He said during the campaign all the Zonal managers are personally present in their geographical locations to better facilitate the residents.
Nasir Ghafoor lauded the efforts of the sanitary workers and said that the entire staff is in field and is working without a break.
The official said that field staff has been assigned special duties along with hiring of additional vehicles and provision of wheel barrows.
