Suspected corona patients held in Peshawar

KARACHI: Peshawar police Tuesday arrested some persons out of 16 suspected patients of COVID-19 who had fled from a quarantine set up in New Saeedabad, Matiari district of Sindh.

The 16 suspected coronavirus patients belonging to the Tablighi Jamaat had escaped on Monday with the alleged help of their local supporters.

All persons, eight males and eight females, originally belong to Peshawar. They were spotted two weeks earlier in Matiari and were kept at a house adjacent to a mosque.

On Monday, all managed to escape with the alleged help of their local fellows.

An FIR was registered against them and their alleged supporters by New Saeedabad Police Station.

Reliable sources informed The News that some of the escaped persons had been arrested by the Peshawar police.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asif Bughio has suspended Station House Officer (SHO) New Saeedabad Mukhtiar Dairo over negligence.

He confirmed that some of the escaped persons had been arrested by the Peshawar police.

Local sources informed The News that all three local persons nominated in the case were released on bail by a local court on Tuesday.
