PIL calls for special prayers during Easter, urges to follow govt directions
Islamabad:The Pakistan Interfaith League (PIL) has called upon the Christian community all over country to offer special prayers for forgiveness and for safety against the raging ‘coronovirus’ pandemic.
At the same time, the PIL Chairman, Sajid Ishaq, urged the Christian community to strictly follow the directions being issued by the government to keep safe from COVID-19, maintaining social distancing and sanitizing measures.
He lauded the efforts made by the Christian clergy for avoiding congregations in Churches on the ‘Good Friday’ in pursuance of guidelines issued by the government to avoid any large scale congregations.
“It was a laudable step taken by the Christian leaders all over Pakistan not to hold ‘Good Friday’ congregations in Churches and I must congratulate them over the initiative,” Sajid Ishaq said.
However, the PIL Chairman said, that the Christian community, particularly those engaged in the sanitation departments all over the country, are in particular danger as they are already exposed to extremely hazardous conditions at work.
“Even at more risk are those nurses and paramedic staff who are working diligently in high risk ‘Coronovirus Isolation Wards’ in hospitals all over the country where they are directly engaged in the fight against the pandemic,” he added.
“We pray for their safety and security on one hand and would like to urge the government, both federal as well as provincial, to make some special arrangements for these workers engaged in sanitation departments as well as in the hospital and health care centers as much as possible,” Sajid Ishaq said.
“These are very testing and very special times on this ‘Good Friday’ and Easter. As such, the occasion calls for special prayers and special care to keep not only one’s own self safe from the dangerous disease but protect their loved ones, the family and friends in these times. “The PIL wishes Christians all over Pakistan in particular and all over the world in general a very ‘Happy Easter’,” Sajid Ishaq said.
