KARACHI: First-class cricketer Zafar Sarfraz on Monday died at Peshawar after being infected by coronavirus, a source told ‘The News’ from Peshawar.
“Yes, he died of coronavirus. He was living near Deans Trade Centre Peshawar Cantt,” a former first-class cricketer said. Zafar was the brother of international cricketer Akhtar Sarfraz, who died a few months ago of cancer.
Zafar played 15 first-class matches for Peshawar, scoring 616 runs. He is the first player in Pakistan who died of coronavirus. Sources said Zafar went to Lady Reading Hospital after his condition deteriorated a few days ago. Doctors advised him to live in isolation at home. On April 7 his family entered into a brawl with the hospital administration. Zafar, who was working for National Bank of Pakistan, was then admitted to the hospital and put on ventilator on April 9. On Monday he breathed his last.
