Lawyers urge govt to resolve issue

KHAR: The lawyer fraternity here on Sunday urged the government to resolve the boundary dispute between the neighbouring Bajaur and Mohmand districts forthwith to prevent violence and bloodshed in the area.
The demand came at an emergency meeting of the District Bar Association, Bajaur, held with its president Javed Shah advocate in the chair. General secretary Ikram Durrani advocate and other members also attended the meeting.
The lawyers expressed concern that the dispute could spark violence and bloodshed in the area if the respective district authorities did not take proper steps to resolve it immediately. They said that it was prime responsibility of the government to maintain law and order and provide protection to the life and property of people.
“The saboteurs and violence mongers must be dealt with an iron hand. There should be an independent inquiry commission to fix responsibility and take the elements responsible for chaos to justice,” the meeting demanded. The participants also expressed concern over the indifferent attitude of the relevant authorities towards this serious issue and demanded a departmental action against them. The lawyers praised the elders for their positive role to calm down protesters and taking steps to resolve the dispute through peaceful means. They said that the passengers and patients faced great hardships due to the protest sit-ins over the boundary dispute between the two districts.
They added that the coronavirus epidemic could also spread in the area if the issue was not resolved through talks. The lawyers also demanded the government to provide relief to the poor and deserving people affected by the ongoing lockdown caused by the fast-travelling coronavirus pandemic.
