Elite subsidies
April 12, 2020
This refers to the editorial, 'Revealing report' (April 7). As pointed out, the beneficiaries are close associates of PM IK. The most important aspect of the report is its leak to the media, which calls for another inquiry to fix responsibility. The report incidentally includes PML-N beneficiaries also.
The question arises: why are subsidies given? Primarily to provide relief to the poor. But the poor continue to be poorer under all governments including the PTI and we continue doling out compensation packages and subsidies to the elite. The government should recover subsidies given to present and past beneficiaries and improve the conditions of the poor. Now the beneficiaries shall go to court – and rightly so.
