Islamabad : The young consultants’ associations of Pakistan, Islamabad, and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Thursday advised the government to desist from arm-twisting, arrest, and torture of doctors at a time when the medical community around the world is being saluted for its efforts to protect lives from being consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At a meeting held at PIMS, the Chairman of the Young Consultants Association (YCA) Pakistan Dr. Asfandyar Khan, President of YCA PIMS Dr. Shakeel Khan, and President of Young Consultants Islamabad Dr. Mehboob condemned the arrest and political victimization of the President of YCA Pakistan Dr. Hamid Butt at the hands of the government.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Shakil Khan maintained that at a time when the country is beset with a medical emergency arising as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, it is highly unbecoming of the government to resort to such tactics. “We do not deem fit to suspend hospital services at this critical time. The entire world is saluting its doctors, and here in Pakistan, they are being arrested and tortured. If the government does not desist from arm-twisting, we will go to any extent to protect our rights. We are in touch with other organizations and will soon announce our future plan of action,” he warned.
