PESHAWAR: Though the coronavirus has forced the people all over the world to observe self-isolation and practice social distancing, the pandemic has brought the people closer in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Though the majority of the people are strictly following the precautionary measures by observing social distancing, they are also caring about their loves ones and are striving to help those in need. “It has brought the people closer,” said a religious scholar.
He explained that the affluent have come forward and are extending financial help to the less fortunate ones. He maintained that the ones who did not have the resources to help others financially were engaging in voluntary humanitarian work. “Even the poor could be heard saying they will not leave their countrymen alone in this difficult time,” said a local carpenter. “We are following the precautionary measures, but it does not mean we will leave our people alone,” he said. “These measures are necessary to save lives,” he added.
A politician, wishing not to be named, has been giving generously to the poor. He noted that the Pakistanis always rose to the challenge in times of emergencies and helped their fellow citizens.
He pointed out that the Al-Khidmat Foundation had even started arranging food for dogs and cats in this situation as the hotels and restaurants were closed and the animals were facing starvation.
He said that the Pakistanis were generally very generous in giving to charities and helping those in distress.
“The affluent and common people will remain in self-isolation and maintain social distancing, but will continue to help the needy,” he said, adding, the coronavirus has united the nation and it would jointly fight it.
