Media workers set up hunger strike camp
PESHAWAR: The workers of the Jang Group on Monday set up a hunger strike camp to protest the arrest of Jang Group Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman.
The Jang Group workers set up the protest camp outside their offices in the provincial capital to demand the government to release their editor-in-chief.Holding placards and banners inscribed with their demands, the journalists changed slogans condemning the arrest of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) vice president Malik Arshad Aziz said that the arrest of Mir Shakil was an attack on the press freedom. He said that the government could not prevent the journalists from reporting the truth. The senior journalist said that a free press was necessary for the functioning of the democratic setup, therefore, the government must lift the restrictions on the media.
