LAHORE:The Punjab government has started delivery of ration supply to labourers and daily wagers with an IT-based data development, said Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid here Friday.

The minister met key philanthropists and partners to review the status of ration supply to the marginalised population in Punjab in the wake of Corona restrictions at the Deputy Commissioner office.

Executive Director Akhuwat Dr Amjad Saqib, Professor Hussain Jaffery and technical officials from the Punjab Information Technology Board attended the meeting along with other officials.

Akhuwat has already started a programme for ration supply to the marginalised. The PITB gave a briefing on the development of an app for registration and development of the database which will help government to identify the deserving people.

The government is also working in collaboration with Akhuwat which already has a rich database of the labourers. The Punjab government has planned to provide supplies and essentials to the labourers and street vendors as long as the crisis goes, Dr Yasmin added.

The minister said, “The objective of the effort is to provide relief to the labourers who have suffered most due to restrictions. We are fully aware of the people’s problems. We are trying our best to provide relief to the needy. We are constituting a coordination committee to ensure the supplies of rations. I am extremely thankful to the welfare organisations for their efforts to support the needy. At the same time, we are making the all-out effort to combat the Corona threat.”
