LAHORE: An accountability court on Tuesday allowed Jang-Geo Group Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman to attend the funeral of his brother, chairman and printer, publisher of the Jang Group, Mir Javed Rahman, in Karachi.

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had allowed Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman to see his critically ill brother, but it was conditional to the court approval. Unfortunately, Mir Javed Rahman passed away early Tuesday morning.

Then, an application was moved before the court requesting permission to allow Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman to attend and arrange the burial rites of his brother in Karachi. Accountability Court judge Jawadul Hassan accepted the plea on humanitarian grounds. However, the judge wrote in his order that the NAB authorities would take all necessary measures at their own risk and cost.

The order said Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman should be produced without fail on his next remand hearing going to be held on April 7. Later, Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman reached Karachi.

APP adds: An accountability court on Tuesday granted a 7-day transit remand of Jang-Geo Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman to enable him to attend the funeral and burial rites of his brother, Mir Javed Rahman.

A counsel for Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman had pleaded withthe court for grant of seven-day transit remand. A prosecutor for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) stated that the bureau did not have any objection if Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman was allowed to attend the funeral.

Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman was arrested by the bureau on March 12 in plots exemption case.
