Two police officials suspend for inflicting corporal punishment to citizens

Rawalpindi: City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi DIG Muhammad Ahsan Younis taking notice suspend two officials of police here on Monday for making corporal punishment to citizens in Kalar Sayedan here on Monday.

Traffic Warden Muhammad Bilal and police constable Hasan were making citizens sit to stand for making violation of Section 144 in precincts of Kalar Sayedan police station. SHO Kalar Sayedan police station stated that some citizens were released after a formal warning in connection of violation of prevailing lockdown in the Rawalpindi Division; however Traffic Warden Muhammad Bilal and Constable Hasan held the citizens and made them sit to stand frequently.

The video of this sit to stand in custody of police officials got viral on social media. Resultantly, CPO Rawalpindi Muhammad Ahsan Younis taking notice of the video suspend both the police officials. DIG Muhammad Ahsan Younis stated that misbehaving with public on part of police is intolerable in Rawalpindi police adding that police officials has been instructed to be polite with citizens.

In view of prevailing lockdown in Rawalpindi, police officials have also been directed from CPO office not to render to corporal punishment with citizens. Citizens have complained that police officials deployed at police pickets at roads use to make people roosters (Corporal Punishment) on roads and also baton charge when people use to come out of their homes in face of some emergency.

CPO Rawalpindi DIG Muhammad Ahsan Younis also appealed to citizens to cooperate with police and stay inside homes in vie of rising alarming situation in the city in connection of Coronavirus outbreak

He said police has been deployed in various localities round the clock after rising number of suspects of Covid-19 in the city. Various localities in Sadiqabad including Dhok Paracha, Magistrate Colony and Bilal Town have been sealed after confirmation of 11 positive cases of Covid-19 in a family. Police has been playing frontline force role against Coronavirus pandemic and citizens should cooperate by restricting themselves within their homes.
