PHF waiting for suitable time to announce PSHL details
KARACHI: The sporting activities have been severely affected across the globe by the coronvirus pandemic, but Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is busy completing important tasks as its committee is working to organise Pakistan Super Hockey League (PSHL). Its is waiting for the right time to announce the league, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The PHF high officials had been in sponsorship talks for the league for two months before the virus emerged. Officials said they had been about to reach agreements with heads of big corporates.
According to informed sources, PHF president Brig (retd) Khalid Khokhar and secretary Asif Bajwa had been busy meeting a number of corporate personalities. The efforts are part of the federation’s plan to organise the tournament this year.
Khokhar told this correspondent that many positive steps had been taken in order to organise Pakistan’s first professional hockey league as the federal and provincial governments, and business sector had promised providing all possible support for the league.
The PHF president said that the federation discussed the league plan with the country’s leading businesses. The personalities that they talked to included Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omer, property tycoon Malik Riaz, Aqeel Kareem Dedhi, and Mian Mansha.
“We are working tirelessly to make PSHL a success and it’s just a matter of time,” Khokhar said. He said no one is in a position to say when the international sports events would be held. “Whenever international sports cycle resumes the chances of PSHL will be bright,” he said.
