People facing acute shortage of LPG

RAWALPINDI: Over 50 percent citizens in absence of gas connections use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) but unfortunately, commodity is unavailable due to lockdown.

The local administration has allowed grocery, vegetable shops, tandoors, milk shops and bakeries to open their business activities while majority of citizens using LPG facing hardships due to absence of commodity for several days.

On the other hand, those who have gas connections are facing low to zero gas pressure due to cold weather. Majority of tandoors are also using LPG cylinders but commodity is not available because of lockdown.

Police arrested 13 LPG dealers as they tried to open their shops to supply commodity to public.

All Pakistan Naanbhais Welfare Association (APNWA) President Muhammad Shafiq Qureshi told ‘The News’ that LPG was not available anywhere and how they could continue their business activities in situation.. “We appeal local administration to allow LPG dealers to open their shops otherwise tandoors will also close down,” he appealed.

The affected citizens have appealed local administration to allow LPG sellers to open shops to ease the life of public.

They said that all hotels and restaurants are already closed in lockdown, how they could survive in this situation.

Rawalpindi LPG Dealers Association Joint Secretary Muhammad Zaman Kiani said that police are not allowing them to open shops. “The Public is insisting us to open shops to sell LPG but police are arresting us, he said.

Assistant District Collector General (ADCG) Zaheer Anwar Jappa said that they are following the orders of Punjab government. “We will inform the whole situation to higher authorities in this regard, he said.
