LAHORE: Former world champion boxer Amir Khan has offered his newly-refurbished £5milion wedding venue to the National Health Service (NHS) as medics battle to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Khan has been redeveloping the 60,000 square foot venue in his home town of Bolton ahead of its scheduled opening this summer but is now ready to hand over the keys. The 33-year-old said in a post on his official Twitter account: “I am aware of how difficult it is for the public to get a hospital bed in this tragic time.
“I am prepared to give my 60,000 square foot 4 story building which is due to be a wedding hall and retail outlet to the NHS to help people affected by the coronavirus. Pls keep safe.” Khan’s gesture is the latest in a long line from sports stars as the country battles the outbreak which has killed more than 20,000 worldwide. UFC star Conor McGregor is buying €1m of protective equipment for hospitals in Dublin while Roger Federer is donating £900,000 to vulnerable families in Switzerland.
