Educational institutions declared quarantine facilities in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Thursday declared educational institutions in Peshawar as coronavirus quarantine facilities.

A notification issued by the administration said the premises declared as Coronavirus Quarantine Facilities are student hostels at Peshawar University campus, including sub-campuses of other universities and educational institutes within these premises, Postgraduate Medical Institute Peshawar, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical Institute and Pakistan Academy for Rural Development.

The administration also asked the Capital City Police to ensure deployment across the facility to prevent any unauthorised movement in and out of the premises.

The entry/exit shall be strictly regulated through authority issued either by the district health office, Peshawar, Health Department or district administration. Anti-coronavirus drive launched, quarantine centre set up in South Waziristan

WANA: The district administration of South Waziristan, with the support of Frontier Corps (FC)-South, launched a door-to-door awareness campaign on coronavirus prevention and also set up quarantine centre at Wana hospital, a senior administrative official said .

Speaking to The News, South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khattak said that during the drive, they were distributing soaps and face masks among the local people.

“We are carrying out the activities with the support of Frontier Corps-South. Initially, we have distributed soaps and facemasks in Makeen, Ladha, Sararogha, Kotkai and Wana areas,” he added. Hameedullah said that in the next phase today (Friday), the administration teams were going to visit the nook and corner of the tribal district to get data of people who may have recently come to the district from the overseas other parts of the country and share the same data with the health department for working on it as per the coronavirus protocols.

“In Wana hospital, we have set up a quarantine/isolation ward and we are now extending its capacity up to 100 beds. Also, four more isolation facilities are being set up at Tanai, Toikhula, Maula Khan Serae and Sararogha,” he added. He said that they have deputed health staff with thermal guns at South Waziristan’s boundaries with Balochistan and other KP areas with the aim of screening and isolating coronavirus patients, while the Afghan border points have been completely sealed. “Barbershops have been shut while hotels have been directed to only sell takeaways and there is a ban on inside-hotel service,” the official said.
