Synthetic turf laid at NED football ground, to be opened soon
KARACHI: A synthetic turf has been laid at the football ground of NED University and the turf is ready to be used, NED officials informed ‘The News’ on Wednesday.
They said work on other sport projects was going on and those would also be completed soon. Sindh government has provided financial and technical help to the university to develop projects for various sports disciplines.
The university is developing what no other educational institution has: a tartan track, a synthetic football turf, and a floodlight cricket stadium.
NED University’s vice chancellor Prof Dr Sarosh Lodhi said that the development of top-notch sports facilities were one of NED’s finest achievements. He further said that NED has set an example which he expects other institutions to follow.
Dr Lodhi thanked Sindh government and paid tribute to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, an alumnus of NED University, for providing assistance in developing the sports facilities. He vowed that the remaining sports projects would be completed as soon as possible.
The synthetic turf for the football ground has been imported from England. Laying the turf took one month, said a technical official. He said that the turf was almost ready to be used. “We will hand it over to NED sports management in a few days,” he added.
It is only the second synthetic football turf in Sindh. The first was Madhu Goth Football stadium near Safari Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. It is pertinent to mention here that POA president Lt Gen Arif Hasan and former national athlete Muhammad Talib visited NED University to witness development work and declared it one of the best steps for the promotion of sports activities in the country. They said the other educational institutions should follow NED University.
