Recent judgements of the Supreme Court in matters related to religious minorities in the country have rekindled hopes within persecuted communities. In many cases, minorities got relief. Members of these communities are looking towards the SC to safeguard their constitutional rights. First, former CJ Iftikhar
Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the Peshawar All Saints Church suicide blast. His successor Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani passed a historic verdict ordering the federal government to form a minority commission and task force for the protection of lives, property and places of worship of minority communities. CJ Nasirul Mulk also continued to take care of minorities’ rights. During his tenure as CJP, he took suo motu notice of the killing of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan. The recently retired chief justice Jawwad S Khawaja has passed remarkable remarks and observations while hearing
cases related to minorities’ rights. The incumbent chief justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali it is hoped will
continue the legacy of protecting these rights. Dr Alfred Charles
