‘No relief for farmers in PM’s package’
From Our Correspondent
OKARA: No relief is given to the farmers in the Special Agriculture Package announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Kisan convention in Islamabad.
It was said by Farmers Associates Pakistan leader Maqsood Ahmad, Potato Growers Society Pakistan director Abdur Rauf and Dr Afzaal Haidar while talking to journalists here on Wednesday. The farmers’ leaders said that Pakistan was renowned as an agriculture country but no government devised national level agriculture policy. They alleged that the PML-N government always made policies against the farmers’ interests. They said that it was ridiculous that the DCOs, DPOs and other government officials visit vegetable & fruit markets to check and control the rates of agri-production. They said that all Pakistani governments did not provide subsidy on any agri-input necessity. The Special Agriculture Package of the PM would not provide any immediate benefit to the farmers, they maintained. The agriculture sector needs sincere and result-oriented steps to provide benefits to the farmers, they added.
