FAISALABAD: Different organisations and segments of society Saturday were urged to cooperate with the government to make the country polio free.
Inaugurating the polio drive at Day Care Centre, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan urged seminaries, media, and religious leaders to shun misgivings and give the masses clarity that there is absolutely no correlation between polio drops and fertility issues.
Dr Iqrar said unfortunately even today, there was reasonable opposition of the polio vaccination in society and some people consider the polio drops harmful to human beings.
The VC said last year, the World Health Organisation declared that Pakistan had become an exporter of the wild polio-virus and slapped travel restrictions on travelers, requiring them to present a certificate of immunization when crossing international borders.
Expressing his views about Day Care Centre at campus, he said the UAF seven years ago by setting up Day Care Centre on the campus, has left the stepping stones for other seats of higher learning to follow.
He said the Punjab government has generously helping the varsity and with a funding of Rs 14 million, a state-of-the-art new Day Care Centre would be completed soon.
