Split in traders on today strike From Our Correspondent CHAKWAL: The traders of the district were divided on the issue of September 9 shutterdown strike. The Chakwal Chamber of Commerce supported the strike and expressed solidarity with the traders community and demanded immediate withdrawal of withholding tax. Whoever merchant association Chakwal rejected the strike and president Sheikh Waqar Ali was of the view that withholding tax is the issue of big traders and industrialist and small traders and vendors have nothing to do with the withholding tax and the small traders lived from hand to mouth and they have to work very hard throughout the day to earn their lively hood and last time the small traders expressed their solidarity with the big traders but that strike did not put any pressure on the government. He offered that if sit in, and a protest move is to be launched against the government, his union and small traders would support them. CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL VAN STANDS: District administration has started a crackdown on illegal van stands and encroachments in Chakwal city. Various vehicles were ticketed and others were impounded. Additional district collector Muhammad Asim Javed along with Assistant Commissioner Musawar Khan Niazi and staff of TMA Chakwal sealed illegal van stands. ADC Asim Javed categorically declared that illegal stands would not be tolerated and vehicles parked at these stands would be impounded. Illegal and other encroachments made in front of DHQ hospital Chakwal were removed. The ADC added the operation would continue on daily basis and violators would face action.
