KARACHI: The PHF president Brig (Rtd) Khalid Khokhar, along with secretary general Shahbaz Ahmed Senior, will address a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore, on Wednesday (today).
The PHF bosses will chalk out their plans on how they will start rehabilitation of hockey across the country, and what measures they will take to revive domestic hockey and invite foreign teams in the country.
It will be the first interaction of the two PHF bosses with the media since their appointment.
Khokhar, when contacted, said they would talk about confronting issues of hockey, “how we will focus on junior hockey which is vital for us right now as our future hockey revolves around their performance”.
Asked about the displeasure expressed by Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on certain issues, Khokhar said he did not like to talk on differences with any one related to the national hockey issues.
He said he had joined PHF to take on board all hockey-related personalities instead of creating differences.
He confirmed that he would talk with all Olympians and international players and their suggestions would be considered for the promotion of hockey.
Khokhar said it was not a good sign that there was criticism in less than 48 hours of announcement of the names of the officials of PHF.
The PHF president added that some time should be given to his team to work with peace of mind.
Qamar Zia, who is the spokesman of a group of Olympians, said that his group had reservations on the recent appointments in PHF.
He said that it was surprising that the ministry of IPC had been given more importance than the PHF congress members and hockey fraternity for appointments in PHF.
“We are waiting for the PHF chiefs’ press conference content and their decisions about the betterment of hockey in the country,” he said.
Qamar said that the management of PHF during the last seven years had destroyed the national game. “Our stance was proved correct when Pakistan failed to qualify for World Cup and Rio Olympics,” he said.
