Elderly woman among three dead in road crashes

Three people, including an elderly woman, lost their lives on Sunday in road accidents in Karachi. According to details, an elderly woman was crushed to death near Ayesha Manzil area, within the limits of the Jauharabad police station.

The police said the woman was trying to cross a road when a speedy vehicle killed her. The unknown driver escaped the scene after the accident. Rescuers moved the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. The woman was identified as 60-year-old Manzura Mai, wife of Ramzan, a resident of Lyari Expressway’s informal settlement.

A case has been registered against the unknown driver. Separately, a man died in a road crash near the Port Qasim Chowrangi, within the limits of the Bin Qasim police station. The man died on the spot.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. The police said he was identified as 30-year-old Adil, son of Gul Sher. The police said the deceased man was resident of the same area in which he met with the accident.

The man was riding motorcycle which was struck by a vehicle whose driver managed to flee after the accident, the police said, adding that a case had been registered against the unidentified driver.

In another accident, 22-year-old Ajmal, son of Azhar Mehmood, was killed when a speedy vehicle ran him over near the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), within the limits of Eidgah police station. The body was taken to CHK for an autopsy. The police said a case had been registered against the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle.
