Levies, Khassadars to be merged into regular police soon: IGP
MIRANSHAH/BANNU: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Sanaullah Abbasi on Saturday said that the Levies and Khassadar force would be merged into
regular police of the province through a notification to be issued in a few days.
He was speaking at a Police Darbar during his maiden visit to Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan district, and Bannu Police Lines on Saturday.
Commissioner Bannu Division Adil Siddiqui, Deputy Inspector General of Poilce Abdul Ghafoor Afridi and other officials accompanied the provincial police chief.
“The police along with Levies and Khassadar force have played a pivotal role during the decade-long militancy and terrorism and restoration of peace in the province and erstwhile Fata and they deserve to be rewarded for their sacrifices,” the police chief said.
He said that Levies and Khassadar personnel would be given perks and privileges equal to the regular police of the province. The IGP later also visited the strategic Ghulam Khan border point near Pak-Afghan border and expressed satisfaction over the role and preparedness of police force for security.
District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan presented traditional turban to the IGP. Talking to media persons in Bannu Police Lines, Sanaullah Abbasi said that Rs450 million would soon be released for establishing police infrastructure including police stations in the merged districts.
He praised the Bannu Police for their bravery exhibited during an encounter with a dreaded outlaw recently. He said that police taken to task the criminal and his accomplices for which the KP Chief Minister had awarded them.
“Today, I am here to say them well done and eulogise their services,” the top cop said. Earlier, the police chief visited the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and placed floral wreath and offered fateha.
He also visited the residence of Shaheed Station House Officer Abdul Hameed Marwat and offered condolences to the sons of slain cop. District Police Officers Yasir Afridi, Qasim Ali Khan, Sher Akbar Khan and other officials accompanied the IGP.
