KARACHI: Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali is not satisfied with the recent appointments in the PHF except that of president Khalid Khokhar.
Talking to ‘The News’, he said the procedure adopted for appointing the secretary PHF was not according to the PHF constitution. He said he had serious reservations about the PHF’s new setup and that he has informed the PM Nawaz Sharif in this regard.
The former premier, who has played hockey at the domestic level, has worked as PHF president for years. The PM Nawaz Sharif has asked him to provide guideline in the wake of Pakistan’s disastrous failure to qualify for the Rio Olympics 2016.
Jamali said that he had no personal differences with any one as far as the betterment of hockey was concerned but he had serious concerns about the procedure adopted to fill in some PHF slots.
He said that Khokhar had discussed the issues with him “but how the appointments have been made in the PHF is not acceptable”.
It has to be mentioned here that a large number of hockey Olympians and international players have not welcomed the recent appointments, though they appreciated Khokhar’s appointment.
Jamali also pointed out that hockey fraternity across the country and legends of the game were also not satisfied with the way appointments were being made.
Jamali said that PHF’s constitution would have to be followed in the appointments on all positions and that approval of the PHF congress was a must.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Olympians who had been opposed to PHF’s previous management were supporting Jamali as they were too against the latest appointments.
The ministry of IPC has been accused by the hockey fraternity of creating a mess in the national game and failing to handle the situation after the resignation of Akhtar Rasool and Rana Mujahid properly.
The sources said that the stance of Jamali has once again shaken the PHF.
But how the situation will be handled is to be decided in Islamabad where a meeting is likely in a couple of days between Jamali, Khokhar and another nominee of PM.
