ISLAMABAD: Norway's Ambassador to Pakistan Kjell-Gunnar Eriksen and Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Chairman Abrar ul Haq have agreed to increase bilateral cooperation to expand the outreach of humanitarian services being rendered by the PRCS in the country, says a press release.
The ambassador visited the PRCS National Headquarters and held a meeting with Chairman Abrar ul Haq. He also congratulated Abrar ul Haq on assuming the charge of the PRCS chairman and hoped that the leading humanitarian organization of Pakistan will see new highs under his visionary leadership. During the meeting, both discussed ways and means to enhance collaboration between PRCS and the Norwegian Red Cross.
The ambassador said Norway and Pakistan enjoy warm relations and that his country has been providing development assistance to Pakistan, particularly in the areas of governance, education and preservation of cultural heritage. He said Pakistanis form one of the largest immigrant communities in Norway. He said the Norwegian Red Cross has already been engaged with the PRCS in serving the humanity in Pakistan and pledged to enhance this cooperation.
PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq hailed the contribution of the government and the people of Norway in overall development and progress of Pakistan. He said the Norwegian Red Cross has always been in the forefront of serving the Pakistani communities in the time of need. He hoped that cooperation between PRCS and the Norwegian Red Cross will grow in the times to come.
PRCS Secretary General Khalid bin Majeed briefed the visiting dignitary about the recent initiatives launched by the PRCS, especially the 90-day plan of action to enhance blood donation in the country.
PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq presented a memento to the Norwegian ambassador. Later, the envoy visited different departments of the PRCS, including the Blood Donor Centre, as well as the pictures gallery.
