KTH finally gets whole-body CT scan machine
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on Tuesday finally installed its own multi-slice whole-body CT scan machine worth Rs109 million.
The machine was installed at the newly built Accident and Emergency department (A&E) for the facilitation of patients and quick delivery of trauma patients. Earlier, the KTH had an old single slice CT Scan machine installed in 2006 through endowment fund that used to take enough time to patients, besides having quality issues. KTH acting Hospital Director Dr Zafar Afridi and acting Medical Director Prof Dr Irshad Ahmad inaugurated state-of-the-art machine and handed it over to chairperson of Radiology Department Prof Dr Hina Gul.
Efforts for the machine began a long time ago. Some insiders said that wrangling among the officials over brand of machine delayed its procurement. The hospital administration claimed it was the latest CT scan 160 slice whole-body model manufactured in Japan.
They claim the machine overcomes limitation of conventional CT scanning and enhances efficiency with the advanced features. They also claim that it is equipped with radiation dose reducing technology (Including Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction AIDR-3D) and allows to scan every patient at lower doses without affecting work flow.
The machine offers quick and accurate diagnosis with the industry fastest 3D reconstruction speed of 60 images per second and with smallest slice thickness of 0.5mm. The KTH administration said the machine was equipped with sophisticated technology for cardiac CT application and Cardiac CT angiography. It made easier the trauma scans and CT scans of obese patients. It is important for patients to be comfortable during the examination.
