Minor drowns

A seven-year-old boy drowned into a nullah in the Gul Ahmed nullah in Swati Muhalla. The family of Wali Khan, son of Mehmood, told police that he was playing near his residence when he fell into the nullah. Rescuers from different welfare associations reached the scene after being informed and started the search and rescue operation; however, the rescuers halted the operation on Tuesday night due to the darkness. The family and residents of the area staged a protest against the incident and blamed the authorities for the negligence.

A similar incident happened with a minor girl in the last week of January. Six-year-old Noor Fatima was playing outside her residence along with her brother when she slipped and fell into a nullah in the SITE area on January 25 (Saturday).

Her body was found after a rescue mission which lasted for three days. Following the incident, a large number of area people had started the rescue work on their own in a bid to find the girl. Despite several attempts by rescuers and common citizens, the minor girl could not be recovered alive or death until Sunday night. The girl’s body was found and taken out of the nullah on January 27.
