Court seeks record of flour mills

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought record of registered flour mills in Punjab from the provincial food department until tomorrow (Thursday).

The court was hearing a case related to shortage of wheat and its flour in the province. The food department director after being summoned by the LHC apprised the bench that the department was ready to provide wheat to flour mills at the rate of Rs1,375 per 40kg. The court directing the flour mills association to file their response in the case ordered the authorities concerned to provide details of registered flour mills in the province.

SUGAR: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday, while hearing a petition on sugar crisis, summoned a report from Punjab Food Ministry about the supply and available stock of the commodity. LHC Chief Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh heard a petition filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique. In his plea, the petitioner claimed that the price of sugar was on the verge of soaring to Rs90 per kilogram. “An artificial crisis is being cooked up to create a shortage of sugar and jack up the price”, the petition said. “If the export of sugar not stopped, it will become out of the access of common man,” the petition said while pleading for imposing a ban on sugar export. Further hearing into the case was adjourned until tomorrow (Thursday)
