GUJRANWALA: Four workers were killed and 24 others injured when a factory roof collapsed following a boiler explosion at Gakhar Mandi on Saturday.
The labourers were busy working in the factory when a boiler suddenly exploded. The explosion caused the roof collapse. As a result, four workers, including Amjad, Amanat and Amir, were killed on the spot while Abdul Rasheed, Mujahid, Amir, Afzal, Tahir, Ishaq, Luqman, Zubair, Jamshed, Shahid, Karim, Yasir and others received serious injuries. On information, Rescue 1122 officials rushed to the spot and shifted the injured workers to the DHQ Hospital but the doctors referred them to a Lahore hospital due to their critical condition.
The factory owner, Altaf, managed to escape. Police, however, arrested three administrative employees of the factory. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen, District Coordination Officer Amir Jan said that a probe had been initiated to ascertain the cause of the incident and a case would be registered against the responsible persons. It is worth mentioning that the DHQ Hospital burn unit was not functioning due to which the injured people were shifted to a Lahore hospital.
Online adds: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the administration and police. He directed to provide the best possible medical facilities to the injured.
