Sustainable agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. With a slightly more focused strategy and resources in this sector, the country can not only tackle poverty but also achieve growth and prosperity. Our agriculture yield is far lower than that achieved by our neighbouring country. The factors responsible for the lower yield include the use of uncertified and poor quality seeds; inadequate availability of irrigation water; rising cost of fertilisers; improper crop management and sale of adulterated pesticides and insecticides.
There are diverse regions in Pakistan that can be exploited and challenges of terrain can very easily be converted into opportunities. In view of these there is a need to focus on the agricultural sector because comparatively less investment is needed in the sector and it consumes very little energy.
