A man was beaten up by citizens for what was reported as an alleged case of rape attempt in Karachi’s Landhi area on Tuesday.
According to the Quaidabad police, a five-year-old was playing outside her home in New Muzzafarabad area when the suspect took him to a bathroom of a nearby mosque. Fortunately, some shopkeepers saw the suspect going towards the bathroom with the girl, the police said.
The shopkeepers were quick to catch the suspect before he could hurt the girl, the police added. As the suspect was caught by the shopkeepers, a large number of people rushed to the location and beat up the suspect, the police said.
As the police were called in, the suspect was arrested and a case was registered against him on behalf of the girl’s family, the police said. The girl was safe and with her family, the police added. In November last year, a government schoolteacher was arrested for his alleged involvement in the sexual assault of a student in the Shah Faisal Colony neighbourhood.
The Shah Faisal police had registered a case against the teacher, who had been identified as Rashid, on the complaint of a man named Imran. The complainant in the FIR had said that the suspect had subjected his three-year-old son to rape.
