DIG Sukkur rejects police inspector’s allegation on Iranian petrol smuggling

SUKKUR: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Sukkur, Iqbal Dara, has rejected the report issued by Police Inspector Ghulam Ali Jumani and claimed that Jumani himself was responsible for Iranian petrol and diesel smuggling, so how could he investigate the case.

Talking to The News, the DIG Sukkur said that Ghulam Ali Jumani, being a police inspector could not submit any report to AG Sindh’s office as he was not the petitioner. He said Sukkur Division did not share a border with Balochistan, so how one could be involved in smuggling of Iranian petrol and diesel. On the other hand, Balochistan had a border with Larkana division.

Iqbal Dara said in the course of investigating Inspector Ghulam Ali Jumani, some unimaginable revelations about him were unveiled. During his posting as a complaint and grievance redressal officer Sukkur, Jumani received Rs5.2 million for the cost of investigation in different cases as well as he earned thousands of rupees in plea of conveyance allowance. He said Jumani visited the CPO Karachi and claimed conveyance allowance for taxi while it was proved during the investigation that he travelled on his brother's car.

The DIG Sukkur told The News that besides all this, it was also found that Jumani was also chargingfor monthly fuel of 400 litres from the SSP office and the same time charging monthly fuel of 400 litres from the the DIG office, while he also had eight security police guards. He further said that when the police guards were asked to return, his fuel allowance was suspended, and DIG Sukkur removed Jumani's favorite officials from the Sukkur Range. Then the police inspector became personal and blamed him for the Iranian petrol and diesel smuggling.

The DIG Sukkur said lots of inquiries were held against Jumani, in which he was found guilty but no action was taken against him. Inspector Jumani was posted in Larkana but he lived in a government house in Sukkur, and being an inspector he was enjoying DSP rank facilities. He said all the allegations leveled against him were scrutinised by Additional AIG Imran Yaqoob Minhas and they were proven false.

The AIG had dismissed all the allegations, including Iranian petrol smuggling scandal, while the inquiry officer had submitted a report to the CPO Karachi nearly nine months ago. He further said Inspector Ghulam Ali Mallah, according to a letter of Additional Inspector General of Police Sukkur, Dr Jamil Ahmed, was found being involved in corruption of investigation funds, and the IGP Sindh had directed the AIGP Sukkur to look into the matter.

The letter said besides this during the audit, embezzlement was proven in the investigation funds and Jumani was nominated in an FIR. During his posting as complaint and grievance redressal officer Sukkur, Jumani had illegally demanded fuel and cash on monthly basis. DIG Sukkur Iqbal Dara told The News that Jumani was not asked for any inquiry by the IGP office but was told to assist DIGP Imran Yaqoob Minhas, when he refused to obey his seniors orders.
