LAHORE:At least 24 people lost their lives in the provincial metropolis from January 19 to 25. The City witnessed at least seven deaths in road accidents, six unidentified bodies, five murders, two suicides and one each death due to snake bite, electrocution, house fire and a death of a jail inmate due to medical complications.
Last but not least, robbers and thieves had been playing hide-and-seek with the police and the robbers and thieves proved that the citizens were not so safe as the Lahore police claimed. Dozens of people were deprived of their valuables and vehicles worth millions of rupees and many injured on resistance. The Lahorites got stuck in gridlock traffic for hours during T20 matches in the City.
Jan 19: A woman attempted to end her life by self-immolation in Manga Mandi area. The injured woman identified as Shagufta Bibi of Shamkay Bhattian grew despondent as she was not able to return the borrowed money. On the day of incident, she set herself on fire. Her husband Ghulam Abbas tried to put out the fire and also received burns. They were admitted to a local hospital.
Three bodies were recovered from the areas of Bhatti Gate, Shafiqabad and Qila Gujar Singh police areas.
Jan 20: One 27-year-old Asif lost his life in a collision between a rickshaw and a loader rickshaw in Raiwind area.
A man was found dead in Badamibagh area. Police claimed that the man yet to be identified was an addict.
Jan 21: A 45-year-old man was shot dead in the limits of Raiwind police area. The victim was identified as Shaukat. The accused identified as Bilal, who happened to be a maternal cousin of the victim, had murdered him over a monetary dispute. Three men lost their lives in different road accidents.
A bike rider was killed in a collision between two motorcycles near Bhatta Chowk. The victim was identified as Saeed-ur-Rehman.
A 50-year-old unidentified man lost his life in a road accident in the limits of Kahna area. A bike rider Sunil lost his life due to over speeding on Ferozpur Road. He lost control over his speeding vehicle which rammed into a trailer.
A 25-year-old woman Sundas expired in a local hospital two days after she set herself on fire after having an exchange of hot words with her husband in Johar Town area.
A man Shaukat was shot dead by some unidentified people in Manga Mandi area. The victim, a welder, was on his way when the incident took place. A 20-year-old teacher, Hira Riaz, died from snake bite in Kahna area. A man was found dead in the limits of Badami Bagh area. The deceased was identified as Haneef.
Jan 22: A man hammered his wife to death on the suspicion of practicing black magic in the limits Chung police area. The victim was identified as Maryam Bibi, 55, wife of Noor Muhammad, 65. The accused Noor Muhammad found his wife indulged in practicing black magic and warned her to refrain herself from such evil acts. But the victim, Maryam, paid no heed to his warnings.
On the day of incident, the accused had an exchange of harsh words with her over the said issue and later hammered her to death.
The victim, a mother of five children, was the second wife of the accused. A 40-year-old man was killed and four others sustained injuries in a collision between a truck and a van in Rachna Town.
The victim was identified as Yousaf. Upon being informed, the rescuers rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to a local hospital where Yousaf was pronounced as brought dead.
The injured were identified as Ghulam Ishaq, 30, son of Sagheer, Amanat Ali, 60, son of Sadiq Ali, Alyas, 35, son of Sardar, and Imran, 20, son of Javed.
Jan 23: A 46-year-old man was killed by a speeding car in Quaid-e-Azam Industrial area. The man yet to be identified was crossing a road when a car hit him as a result he received fatal injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Body was shifted to morgue. A 25-year-old youth committed suicide by shooting himself in Raiwind City police area. The deceased was identified as Umar.
A prisoner of Camp Jail died of medical complications in a local hospital. The deceased was identified as Safeer of Johar Town.
Jan 24: A 22-year-old girl died after being electrocuted while switching on the light of the bathroom in Kahna area. The victim was identified as Samina Bibi.
As per family sources, Samina went to the washroom and as she switched on the light she received a severe electric shock, resulting into her death. A 28-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances in Lorri Adda police area.
Some passersby spotted the body of a man and informed the police. The body yet to be identified was shifted to morgue for autopsy to ascertain the cause of the death. A man was burnt alive after a fire broke out in a house in Gulshan Park near Lal Pul. Upon being informed, the firefighters rushed to the scene and recovered the body of a man. The victim was said to have been paralysed and could not move. The cause of the fire was said to be a short circuit.
Jan 25: A 50-year-old man was clubbed to death by his elder brother in Chung police area. The victim was identified as Liaqat of Khaliq Nagar Chung.
The accused identified as Aslam had an exchange of hot words with his younger brother over a domestic issue and later clubbed him to death.
A 12-year-old boy was killed and his mother injured by a speeding tractor-trolley in Manga Mandi area. The victim identified as Zain and his mother Zohra Bibi were crossing road when a rashly driven tractor-trolley ran over them as a result of which the boy died on the spot and his mother sustained serious injuries.
The injured woman was admitted to a local hospital where her condition was said to be critical. The accused driver escaped leaving his vehicle behind the scene.
