KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi finally granted an audience to Muhammad Asif, who rewrote history by becoming the first Pakistani to win the world snooker title twice.
According to a media release, shared by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA), the highly sought after meeting finally took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) in Islamabad on Friday.
PBSA co-chairman Alamgir Anwar Shaikh, who played the pivotal role in arranging the meeting, was also present on the occasion aalongwith PBSA president Munawwar Hussain Shaikh.
Asif emerged triumphant in the IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championship 2019, staged in Antalya, Turkey, in November. He had earlier captured the world crown way back in 2012.
The PBSA officials, seeking the immediate release of the cash reward for Asif, had been proactively touching base with the authorities in Islamabad on a regular basis over the last couple of months.
The President congratulated Asif for making the country proud with his accomplishment of winning the World Championship for the second time.
“The Honorable President was pleased to meet Muhammad Asif and give an assurance to recommend a befitting cash award/reward for his brilliant performance for the country,” the PBSA media release said.
