Defence ministry conditionally agrees to free Col Inam
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Defence on Wednesday conditionally agreed to release Advocate Colonel (R) Inamur Rahim, who was picked from his home in Rawalpindi last month by a security agency.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mushir Alam heard the appeal filed by Ministry of Defence against the order of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench declaring the detention of Col (R) Inamul Rahem as illegal and unlawful. During the course of hearing, Attorney General Captain (R) Anwar Mansoor Khan informed the court that Col (R) Inamul Rahim was unwell and had been taken to the hospital multiple times.
The AG submitted before the court that the government is ready to release the detainee on the condition if his counsel agrees to surrender his passport and share his laptop's password with the ministry. Anwar Mansoor Khan further submitted that Col (R) Inamul Rahem will also be required to avoid going outside the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad besides ensuring cooperating in the ongoing investigation. Counsel for Col (R) Inamul Rahem informed the court that Mr Rahem had been under detention for more than a month. He, however, agreed to the conditions, put by the Ministry of Defence.
Meanwhile, the court directed counsel for Col (R) Inamul Rahem to surrender his passport and cooperate in the ongoing investigation. The court further ruled that the appeal, filed by the federal government and Ministry of Defence, challenging the order of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench will be heard on merit and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
