Crackdown on flour mills over selling wheat stock in open market starts in Jhang
JHANG: On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Food Department Tuesday started a crackdown on owners of flour mills involved in grinding wheat in less quantity and selling wheat stock in open market.
According to official sources, Punjab Food Department continuously supplying wheat stock to wheat flour mills on subsidized rates as Rs 1,350 for 40 kilogram while most of the flour mills owners sold the wheat stocks in open markets for Rs1,900 for 40 kg. The sources also said some owners are producing less wheat flour in comparison to the stock given to them daily.
The sources said some flour mills owners are involved in selling official wheat stock on higher rates and selling flour bags at exorbitant rates.
District Food Controller (DFC) Amanullah Soomro has suspended wheat supply quota to a local flour mill. Talking to reporters, the DFC said action has been taken against the wheat flour mill owners for their involvement in selling wheat out of the district and low production of wheat flour. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) sought a report from intelligence officials about the activities of Food Department officials.
