ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday said those who voted for ‘Naya Pakistan’ must now bear the brunt.

Talking to media persons outside the court after hearing of LNG reference, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that this is new Pakistan — if people quit eating bread then issue will stand no more. He said that people voted for “Naya Pakistan” and now they should bear the brunt of its outcome.

The PML-N leader said that flour is selling at the rate of Rs70 per kilogram and the government is not ashamed of its failure. He said if the government cannot give flour then at least it must regret over it. “Every day of government will cost heavily to people of Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan does not even pay tax,” he claimed.

Earlier, the judicial remand of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in LNG reference was extended till February 4.

During the hearing, the former PM and other suspects appeared before the accountability court. Former finance minister Miftah Ismail didn’t appear due to his exemption from appearance. The court ordered Ogra chairperson Uzma Adil and former chairman Saeed Ahmad to submit surety bonds worth Rs10 million in order to make sure attendance.

The court remarked that it cannot impose indictment due to an absconding suspect and when report comes then proceedings will move ahead.

The court also sought arrest warrant report of absconding suspect Shahid Islam from the NAB.
