SBP to organise first Snooker Championship

LAHORE: Snooker is quite popular game in Pakistan and Sports Board Punjab will organsie first SBP Snooker Championship to trace fresh talent in this game; this was stated by DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh during his meeting with Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) at National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

M Asif, who is the first Pakistani to win two World Snooker titles, was part of 4-member delegation which also includes President PBSF Alamgir Sheikh, President Punjab Snooker Association MB Ghauri and press secretary Nauman Sheikh.

During the meeting, Aulakh congratulated Muhammad Asif for winning second World Snooker title and lauded his achievements saying that he is our pride. “Our young cueists must hard work like Asif and win laurels for the country”.

Aulakh, on this occasion informed that Sports Board Punjab is going to launch a programme ‘Sarsabz Maidan Sehatmand Naujawan’ in Punjab to provide best sports facilities to young players near their doorsteps. “Under the programme, superfluous grounds will be upgraded across the province so that our young players can utilize these facilities to nurture their sports talent. In this regard, 1500 venues have been identified,” he disclosed.

Elaborating the first SBP Snooker Championship, Aulakh informed that players from all divisions will participate in the championship. “Several young talented players will emerge though this championship. The dates of championship will be announced shortly”.

In response to President PBSF Alamgir Sheikh’s demand for a snooker hall, Aulakh asked him to prepare a feasibility report and we will do whatever possible in this regard.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Tehsil Sports Officers (TSOs) and Divisional Coaches called on Secretary Sports Punjab Ehsan Bhutta and DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh at Punjab Stadium on Monday.

All the TSOs and Divisional Coaches, who were appointed to their respective jobs through Public Service Commission, were introduced with Secretary Sports and DG Sports Punjab.
