Minor girl raped, murdered in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A seven-year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Ziarat Kaka Sahib area in the district, police sources said on Sunday.

One Mian Yousaf Jahan told the police that his seven-year old niece (A) had left home for madrassa at around 3pm but did not return by 4:30pm. He said that the family started looking for her and even made announcements from mosques but there was no clue about her whereabouts.

In the meanwhile, he said, that the family members spotted two men identified as Abdar and Rafiqul Wahab trying to strangulate the minor girl. As soon as the accused saw the local people they dropped the girl in a pond of water and fled the scene. She was pulled out of water, but she had already died. The body was sent to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctors confirmed that the girl had been raped before being killed.

The incident enraged the local people who started searching for the accused and seized them late Saturday night. Meanwhile, a jirga announced to decide the fate of the accused, but the police intervened and took them into custody.
