Karachi: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh has claimed that certain high-ups of the Sindh Police have been acting in a manner as if they have become a subsidiary to the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Sindh.

In a press statement issued on Friday, the Sindh Energy minister said that the Sindh Police instead of playing into the hands of the opposition should give preference to performing its work dutifully.

He said that SSP Dr Rizwan Ahmed had always patronised mafias of drug peddlers and smuggled Irani diesel in whichever district he had remained posted. Shaikh said that the contents of the secret police report against him had been unduly leaked to the opposition and the media beforehand.

He said that the SSP in question had acted as a facilitator of drug peddlers and mafia involved in smuggling of diesel in his native district of Shikarpur. He said that the SSP had assumed the role of his personal enemy after he had lodged a complaint against the police officer to the Sindh chief minister and Inspector General of Sindh Police.

He said that the law and order situation in his native district had worsened while the SSP in question had been connected to the acts of drug peddlers, diesel mafia, people involved in extra-judicial killings, and corruption. “The Sindh government is not so weak that that it could be blackmailed by a few police officers” .
