FAISALABAD: The FBR Faisalabad region Wednesday started a ‘compulsory registration’ of kilns operating in the region and some 50 kilns have been registered in the first phase to assess their income from bricks sale and levy of sales tax and income tax in the light of their income,

It has been learnt that over 700 kilns are operating in Faisalabad division since long and owners of the kilns have not paid even a single penny as Income Tax and Sales Tax for the last 10 years despite issuance of notices. The sales tax was assessed by the local FBR authorities and notices were sent to the kiln owners besides issuance of reminders but they did not pay the taxes.

The FBR local authorities have further pointed-out that the kiln owners were themselves fixing the price of bricks without any prior permission from the authorities concerned and were hesitating to pay sales tax and income tax. Meanwhile, President of Kiln Owners Association, Faisalabad region, Abdur Razzaq Bajwa, said the kiln owners were ready to pay sales tax and income tax to the government.

He said President of the Pakistan Kiln Owners Association was holding meetings with the government and the FBR Chairman and urged the FBR authorities to wait for the outcome of the negotiations. He was confident that a ’reasonable formula’ would be evolved in the meeting and urged the FBR authorities not to issue notices to kiln owners.
