Two cops among 9 injured in Peshawar blast near police post
PESHAWAR: Nine people, including two policemen and five women, were injured in an explosion near the Karkhano police checkpost on Tuesday night.
Heavy contingents of police cordoned off the area after the explosion. The place where the blast occurred is the boundary between Peshawar and Khyber districts. Assistant Inspector General of the Bomb Disposal Unit Shafqat Malik told reporters that the explosives were not planted but someone lobbed them. “It seems to be a hand-grenade was lobbed by the attackers,” said the official. Senior police officials rushed to the spot after the blast.
A police constable Mohammad Arif and an official of Anti-Narcotics Force Haroon were among those injured in the blast. They injured were taken to the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.
The other wounded included Parveen, Yasmeen, Azra, two unidentified women , Ayub and Abdul Razzaq.
Officials said two of the wounded were in a critical condition.
Police said a search operation was launched in the area after the explosion to arrest the attackers.
Meanwhile, three brothers were killed in firing in Dheri Baghbanan late Tuesday night.
Rescue officials said the deceased were identified as Siddiq, Waseem and Waqas, sons of Aslam. It was not known as to whether they were killed by rivals or there was some other motive
