LAHORE: Six robbers stormed into the house of senior journalist Imtiaz Alam in the Raiwind area on Sunday and took away valuables, including gold and diamond jewellery and foreign currency worth crores of rupees.
The robbers overpowered the driver and the police guard besides snatching his rifle, and tied them with ropes. Later, they entered the house after breaking open the windows and made people inside the house hostage at gunpoint. They conducted a thorough search of the house, collected valuables and manhandled the residents before leaving the house.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also took notice of the incident and directed the CCPO to submit a report to him. Meanwhile, the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) strongly condemned the dacoity and demanded impartial investigations.
CPNE President Arif Nizami, Secretary General Dr Jabbar Khattak and other office-bearers said such incidents reflected the poor law and order situation in the country. He urged the law enforcement agencies to ensure protection of lives and properties of citizens.
