MARDAN: The police have arrested as many as 3,513 proclaimed offenders and 1,083 facilitators and also seized huge quantity of weapons and drugs from their possession during last year under the national action plan (NAP), a senior police official said.
Briefing the media, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sajjad Khan said that under the National Action Plan, the police conducted operations in the outgoing year and arrested 3,531 proclaimed offenders wanted by the police in crimes of heinous nature. He added that the police also arrested 1,083 facilitators. The DPO added that the police also registered cases against unregistered tenants, 1,487 trade centres and other institutions for poor security arrangements. The DPO said that 1,180 people were arrested for aerial firing, 402 people for gambling, 125 under interest (usury) act, 128 “ice” drug sellers and 71 land mafia members.
Mohammad Sajjad Khan also said the police also registered cases against 357 people in gambling cases. He said that police also sent 60 people to jail under 3-Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The DPO added 33,238 suspects were arrested under the NAP, adding that 5,010 cases were registered under the weapons ordinance. The police also seized 322 Kalashnikov rifles, 133 Kalakov rifles, 187 rifles, 438 guns, 5,014 pistols, 89,000 cartridges of the different bore, 5 hand grenades, 617 dynamites, 504 safety fuses, 83 detonators and 331 explosive devices. The DPO added that police seized 2,639kg hashish, 60kg opium, 639 litres wine, and 33kg ice.
